Rowley Youth Baseball and Softball League, Inc. (RYBS) places the highest priority on the safety and well-being of the youth in our programs. We believe that the likelihood of child sports abuse can be reduced by creating a culture of awareness through education, screening, and policy and procedures implementation. The following policy and procedures have been adopted in an effort to provide a safe environment for our youth and their families.

Screening:

Every coach and Assistant working with youth must complete a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Acknowledgement Form provided by RYBS. Only volunteers with positive CORI report results will be eligible to coach for RYBS. CORI screenings are completed by an independent company and paid for by RYBS.

Behavior Expectations:

The goal of RYBS is for coaches and players to have a healthy relationship and positive communication. RYBS adheres to a “Three (3) Person Rule – All coaches and team volunteers should never be alone with a single youth player that is not a relation or family member. For example, there must always be two (2) youth players present with one (1) adult or two (2) adults present with an unrelated, youth player. This will always apply when unrelated youth players are present with an adult making a minimum of three (3) individuals in situations such as:

Before and After Team Games and Practices
Transportation and travel to and/or from games and practices
Any social interactions outside of scheduled games and practices

Prohibited Behaviors:

Degrading Language or Behavior
Physical Threats or Violence
Committing a sexual offense against a minor or engaging in any other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature with a minor

Communication:

All communication between players and coaches should be professional and team oriented.

Reporting Suspected Abuse:

All coaches and volunteers are considered mandatory reporters and as such will report any suspected abuse or neglect.

All coaches and volunteers are directed to report any incident of suspected abuse they witness or that is reported to them to the proper law enforcement agencies and to the RYBS President, Joe Haley.
